ECHINACEA ROOT {Echinacea angustifolia/Echinacea purpurea) has been deemed the “King of all blood purifiers”. Considered a valuable alternative to antibiotics. This herb has very strong immune-activating abilities.  It has been used as a blood cleanser and for skin disorders, such as boils and abscesses. Famous for its use with treating snake bites, It has also been used for cleansing the lymphatic system, fevers, blood poisoning, carbuncles, peritonitis, syphilic conditions, bites, stings, gangrenous conditions, diphtheria, tonsillitis and pus formations.

GOLDENSEAL ROOT (Botanical name: Hydrastis canadensis) The golden, yellow root of this plant gives it its name. It has antibiotic properties stronger than many prescription medicines and is able to target unwanted bacteria, as well as protozoa and yeasts. Unique in that it does not harm the beneficial bacteria that are necessary in the digestive tract. By many herbalists it is considered one of the most powerful herbs. This has been substituted for quinine.  It is one of the most effective remedies for inflamed and catarrhal conditions of the mucus membranes. Has the ability to heal mucus membranes anywhere in the body (bronchial tubes, throat, intestines, stomach, etc.). Other uses: open sores, eczema, ringworm, skin diseases, diphtheria, tonsillitis, severe throat problems, sluggish digestion, spinal meningitis, pyorrhea, sore gums, sinus difficulties, bladder disorders and lower bowel problems (can use as an enema), infection, flu, diabetes, constipation, colds, cankers, psoriasis, heart disorders, gallbladder, spleen and pancreas. USNEA (Usnea barbata) has been used internally and externally for fungal, viral and bacterial infections.

SLIPPERY ELM (Ulmus fulva) is a very soothing and nutritive herb. It is an excellent food for convalescence and for children.  Its soothing action helps to alleviate gastro-intestinal irritation as well as irritated, sore throats, coughs and dryness of the lungs. It is easily assimilated in the body and will usually stay down when all other foods cause nausea and vomiting. It has been beneficial for both constipation and diarrhea. Other uses: weak digestive system, abscesses, chest diseases, diarrhea, constipation, irritation of the colon and intestines, spasming colon and bowel, dysentery; digestive upset. WILD CARROT (Daucus carota) AKA QUEEN ANNE’S LACE is mainly used for kidney disorders.  It has been used as a diet for a short period of time for cancer, liver, kidney and bladder disorders, and has been useful in the treatment of cystitis, prostatitis, gravel and urinary stones, dropsy, gout, colic and flatulence. The juice is reputed to have anti-cancer activity. The root helps to expel worms and is an effective antacid for heartburn and gastritis.

Externally, it has been used as a poultice for itchy skin. Grated carrots have been used on ulcers, abscesses, carbuncles, scrofulous and cancerous sores.

COMFREY ROOT (Symphytum officinale) is one of the most well-known healing plants, especially for its ability to heal tissue and bone (due to its allantoin content), which promotes the growth of connective tissue, bones, cartilage and is easily absorbed through the skin.  It is used in the treatment of a wide range of pulmonary complaints, such as asthma, bronchitis, pleurisy, emphysema and internal bleeding. It has been a beneficial remedy for respiratory disorders, gastric ulcers and colitis. Considered an over-all tonic, good for the stomach, liver, kidneys and bowels. Other indications: mental

fatigue, cramps in the legs, coughs, colds, anemia, pain, arthritis and infections.

ELECAMPANE ROOT (Inula helenium) has been beneficial to all pulmonary and catarrhal affections. This herb is the richest source of insulin.  Today it is used primarily for respiratory ailments such as coughs, asthma and bronchitis. It is used with Echinacea for tuberculosis and whooping cough. Its bitter tonic properties stimulate a weak digestive system and help to balance a disordered digestion. It also increases the flow of bile. Elecampane promotes the menstrual flow and is beneficial for anemia. May be used for kidney and bladder infections.

GROUND IVY (Glechoma hederacea) is a safe and effective herb that is used to treat many problems involving the mucous membranes of the ear, nose, throat and digestive system.  It is used as an appetite stimulant. Ground Ivy contains a volatile oil which aids in relieving congestion and inflammation of mucous membranes associated with colds, flu, and sinusitis. A well-tolerated treatment it can be given to children to clear lingering catarrh and to treat chronic conditions such as glue ear and sinusitis. Throat and chest problems, especially those due to excess catarrh, also benefit from this remedy. Ground Ivy has also been used for arthritis and other joint pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), stomach problems, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, bladder infections, bladder stones, and kidney stones. Some women take it for menstrual (period) problems.

GINGER ROOT (Zingiber officinale) is warming and stimulating. It has helped to promote gastric secretions, thus aiding with food absorption.  It has been used for indigestion, flatulence, nausea (including travel and morning sickness) and colic.  Stimulating to the circulation and will help to warm cold hands and feet. It has a beneficial effect on the lungs, helping to dispel mucus and phlegm. Taken hot, it promotes sweating and is helpful for colds and flu. Chewing the root will stimulate the saliva and benefit the sore throat. Other uses: relief of headaches, vertigo, aches, pains, osteoarthritis, suppressed menstruation and as a cleansing agent through the kidneys and bowels.

CAYENNE ROOT (Capsicum minimum) is considered by many to be the strongest stimulant known. Use as a relaxant to the stomach and colon and as a healer for ulcers. It has been able to stimulate the stomach and is not irritating when small doses are used. Cayenne stimulates the blood and the heart, increasing and strengthening the pulse. It does well in dilating blood vessels and thus relieving chronic congestion of people addicted to drink. It has been used as a tonic and is said to be unequalled in warding off disease because of the high vitamin C content. It has been used for colds, sinus, respiratory ailments, indigestion, hangover, diabetes, cramps, circulation problems, asthma, rheumatism, kidneys and high blood pressure. It has been used with ginger to clean out the bronchial tubes and sinus cavities, as a gargle for sore throats, as an emergency treatment for shock, for hemorrhage and bleeding wounds – use internally and externally. Also good for headaches (cluster and migraine), obesity, indigestion, heartburn, osteoarthritis, pain, shingles, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, low back pain and neuropathy.

NUTMEG, in small quantities, improves appetite and digestion. It has been used to treat diarrhea, dysentery, gas, colic, nausea, vomiting, impotence, premature ejaculation, muscle spasms, and insomnia.

YELLOW DOCK ROOT (Rumex crispus) is an excellent blood-builder as its iron content is easily digestible and it contains up to 40% iron.  It has been useful for anemia and iron-deficiency symptoms. PROSTATE SUPPORT FORMULA

This is a tried-and-true formula to strengthen the prostate. It is similar to the Kidney support formula with two major differences. It has ginseng and gravel root; and it has cayenne instead of lobelia. Lobelia is a herb which tells the other herbs to do whereas the cayenne is a stimulant, driving the other herbs to stimulate the organ/organs involved.

Ingredients: Red Ginseng, Juniper Berries, Marshmallow, Ginger, Gravel Root, Goldenseal, Uva Ursi, Parsley leaf, Cayenne (40 hu).

GINSENG ROOT (anax quinquefolium) There are many grades and varieties of Ginseng available. In China it is used as a preventative and is considered to be the "King of all Tonics." Increases synthesis of nuclear RNA.  It provides stimulation to the entire body for stress, fatigue, weakness and deficiencies. It stimulates and improves the brain cells and is especially stimulating for mental fatigue. Ginseng works with the heart and blood, providing nourishment and circulation. It has been used for diabetes, anemia, normalizing blood pressure, reducing cholesterol and preventing atherosclerosis. By some it is considered to be a panacea and said to slow down the aging process. Ginseng tones the appetite and is useful in digestive problems, helping to alleviate stomach problems, colic, congestion and constipation. Athletes use it for overall body strengthening. Other uses: hormonal imbalance. In Chinese medicine, Ginseng is not used when there is inflammation, burning sensations or high fever.
